James is our new Head Greenkeeper
Following Iain Wakeman’s decision to accept a position at Rosslare Golf Club
in Ireland, the Management Committee is delighted to announce that James
Macbeath has been appointed as the new Head Greenkeeper. He will return to
Brora in his new role on 1st April 2010.
James will be well known to most members, having played golf here for the
last 35 years. Starting as a junior, James steadily improved to become one
of the best golfers in the club, winning the Club Championship on eight
occasions and the Clynelish Open seven times since 1994. He also won the
Sutherland County Championship in 2000.
James is currently working as the Deputy Head Greenkeeper at the Carnegie
Club at Skibo Castle. He has worked there for the past six years, moving
there from Brora Golf Club where he undertook his training and worked for
nine years before his move to the Carnegie Club. James is very
passionate about his new role and said “This is the only job I would leave
the Carnegie Club for.” Having made a short presentation to the
Management Committee on his vision for the future of the golf course and how
he can help improve the presentation and preparation of the already
excellent course. James proved to be the strongest candidate of the
seven people who had applied for the post and his appointment was
unanimously endorsed by the committee.
Alistair Beggs, of STRI, commented on James’ appointment “With his previous
experience at Skibo and Brora managing links courses I am sure you have the
right man for the job.”
We would like to wish James every success in his appointment and hope that
the membership will give James their support.
